Fuel efficiency and driving pleasure, creating a small footprint were the main criteria guiding the design of the Chevrolet Aveo engine range. The gasoline engine of 1.6 liter (115 hp) gives the Aveo features strong acceleration and an immediate sense of performance while driving at low speeds.

The range includes two petrol versions 1.2 liters, rated at 70 hp and 86 hp, respectively, a 1.4-liter engine (100 hp) and a 1.6-liter engine (115 hp). Starting this fall, the new Chevrolet Aveo also be offered with a 1.3-liter turbo-diesel - the first of a small Chevrolet in Europe - with common rail injection, Start / Stop technology and a variable geometry turbocharger.

The 1.2 liter, 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter four-cylinder petrol engines have double overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. Their cast iron block engine is based on a hollow frame structure. Engines 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter have a frame of solid rock foundation that provides a more rigid structure, resulting in engine performance quieter and smoother. The 1.6-liter engine has a toothed timing belt which has a change interval of every 10 years or 160,000 km.

Fuel consumption in combined cycle is 5.1 litres/100 km version of the 86 hp 1.2-liter and 6.6 liters per 100 km case, 1.6-liter engine, in combination with manual transmission. Ecotec 1.2-liter gasoline emits 119 g CO2 per kilometer. The Aveo is the first Chevrolet small car to sport a six-speed automatic transmission. One of its main advantages is the location of tools, devices that were placed on the same axis as the axis of the engine crankshaft. Among the benefits of this change is a short train, a lower hood line and increased livability.
